Broadway, quite simply, is world famous and regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Britain (let alone the Cotswolds) with it's glorious stone buildings lining the High Street. Numerous Cotswold stone houses, cottages, buildings mixed with ancient chestnut trees make the impressive High Street a breathtaking scene. Broadway has sometimes been described as the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds' due in the main to its stunning look and presentation. For the historically interested, the name 'Broad Way' is due to the wide main street centred around The Village Green which is lined with red chestnut trees and many classic Cotswold stone buildings, some dating as far back as the 16th century.
The village has some excellent pubs, The Swan, The Crown & Trumpet and Broadway Hotel to name three along with a very famous hotel The Lygon Arms, which does quality food. The High Street is very long and at the Upper End it really is quite stunning, almost dreamy and too good to be true! There are some very good shops, especially antique shops & art galleries.
Broadway is a perfect base for touring the Cotswolds, with Cheltenham and Stratford-upon-Avon both only fifteen miles away. There are also many National Trust properties and gardens nearby, with a wealth of places of interest and historic towns. For those who prefer to explore the area in depth there are many areas to go walking with Broadway also being on the Cotswold Way and Broadway Tower (at the top of Fish Hill) offering one of the most spectacular views of the Cotswolds. A must visit location!!
BROADWAY TOWER
One of the most recognizable Cotswold landmarks, the Broadway Tower, is located just a 5-minute drive outside Broadway.
You can see it from miles away, both from the Broadway side and from the Chipping Campden side, but the view from the tower itself is, of course, the most impressive. On the clearest of days you can see as many as 16 counties from the top of the tower.
